As the 15 October Round 1 application deadline approaches, the Weekly Wednesday Admissions Chat is an excellent resource to ask questions about the application process and the Darden MBA. To participate, just log-in to the Darden MBA website each Wednesday from 12:30 – 1:00 p.m.
Questions from today’s Weekly Wednesday Admissions Chat are included below:
Question: Is there a size limit to the resume?
Answer: There is no limit on the length of the resume. However, I recommend you to be concise. The resumes we usually receive are either one or two pages.
Question: If there is no existing transcript for particular coursework (such as a open enrollment course taken for a current organization), is it fine to upload the certificates?
Answer: Yes, certificates are fine. Completion of training in addition to traditional university work does carry weight.
Question: In the Letters of Recommendation section of the application, there is a question about a clause to waive or not waive your right of access. Can you explain this?
Answer: There is a law, the Family Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) which deals with the rights of students and applicants to access their records, including recommendations. Those who recommend applicants often wish their comments remain confidential, so we include that waiver in our application. This is something you may want to discuss with your recommenders.
Question: Is there an advantage to applying in Round 1 over Round 2?
Answer: There are advantages to applying in the first round — the Admissions committee has every seat to fill and the scholarship committee has every dollar to award. However, you only get one shot at applying, so in my opinion it is better to wait if necessary and submit your BEST application.
