Darden Admissions recently hosted a webinar about one of our most popular topics: standardized tests and test waivers. Senior Director of Admissions Brett Twitty and Director of Admissions Catie Yeilding shared insights about why Darden has opted to continue test flexibility and offer an even better test waiver request process that is now integrated with our Full-Time MBA application.

Planning to apply to our Executive MBA program? Check out our standardized test options (including test waiver requests) for Executive MBA applicants.

Standardized tests are just one component of the application, and Darden Admissions takes a lot of pride in approaching the application from a holistic perspective. There are many ways for an applicant to highlight their experience and craft their narrative.

When it comes to standardized tests, applicants have two choices:

  1. Take one of the many standardized tests that Darden accepts
  2. Submit a test waiver

Admittedly, there are a few considerations for Full-Time MBA applicants who believe a test waiver is the right path for them. Are you able to show academic aptitude in other ways, such as quantitative professional experience, non-degree coursework or certifications? Do your post-MBA career goals include working in an industry where a GMAT/GRE score is required? Are scholarships an important part of your decision to attend a business school?

Candidates who meet most of the criteria below are more likely to be granted a test waiver. Meeting a minimum of two criteria is required. The criteria include:

  • At least three years of professional work experience
  • A strong undergraduate or graduate record, including performance in analytical coursework or disciplines
  • Master’s or advanced degree in an analytical discipline
  • CPA or CFA designation or other quantitative professional certification

For Full-Time MBA applicants considering a test waiver, Twitty and Yeilding also shared best practices on when to submit a test waiver request (early!) as well as tips for getting organized for the waiver process. They also provided insights about English language proficiency test requirements for international applicants and fielded questions submitted by session attendees.
