About

Business has an urgent need to express a renewed story about how it interacts with and contributes to society. It also needs a new generation of leaders with the skills necessary to guide their organizations through an environment shaped by complex and often volatile social forces. The Institute for Business in Society (IBiS) at the University of Virginia’s Darden School of Business has been created to address these growing challenges.

Through a four-part effort that incorporates conferences, cases, courses and research, IBiS helps business leaders anticipate and address the crises inevitably produced when business and society diverge. It articulates the fundamental forces — within industries and across different regions of the world — that govern this relationship. And it aims to equip corporate leaders with the understanding and the strategies that they need to realign business and society productively.
