Current Students Discuss Darden’s MBA/MSDS Dual Degree
Current first year Darden MBA/MSDS Dual Degree students, Karen Li and Steve Mortensen, hosted a webinar with MBA/MSDS Program Director and Professor of Marketing, Raj Venkatesan, to discuss their experience in the program so far and the impact they believe the dual degree will have on their career and to answer audience questions.
Members of the first MBA/MSDS Dual Degree cohort, who all arrived at Darden with backgrounds that span industries and the globe, agree that the extra work and potential risk they took in entering into the dual degree program will be worth it when they leave Darden as coveted hires with an unparalleled skillset.
As Mortensen states, “All of the major consulting firms, management consulting firms, strategy consulting firms, have been investing a tremendous amount of money in building out their data science capabilities in the last five years.”
Venkatesan sees the utility of the dual degree in a variety of roles.
“Every aspect of business including strategic thinking, talent management, operations, finance and marketing is being affected by data, and MBA graduates are expected to have knowledge of the functional aspects of business and be able to use data effectively to make strategic business decisions,” said Venkatesan. “The dual-degree program with Data Science is designed to help students achieve this. It provides the breadth of a general management program and the depth of a data science degree.”
