The Admissions Committee at the University of Virginia Darden School of Business is thrilled that you’re considering Darden for your MBA!

To help you along on your MBA journey, we are sharing application tips for various sections of the application, whether you’re applying for the Full-Time, Part-Time or Executive MBA program.

This week on the Application Tips video/podcast series, Darden experts Brett Twitty and Whitney Kestner discuss standardized tests and test waivers for the Full-Time, Part-Time and Executive MBA programs. Watch or listen below!

Which standardized tests does Darden accept?

Full-Time MBA candidates are required to submit either a standardized test score or a test waiver with their application; however, submitting a test score is optional for Part-Time and Executive MBA candidates.

All Darden MBA formats accept the same standardized test scores: GMAT, GRE, Executive Assessment, LSAT and MCAT. Applicants are encouraged to take whichever test best highlights their skills and abilities.

Advantages to Applying With a Standardized Test Score

We understand that studying for and scheduling a standardized test is a significant commitment; however, it might pay off in your favor!

At Darden, the majority of our scholarship awards are merit-based. A test score could be one more data point to make your case during scholarship consideration.

It’s also important to remember that some employers require a test score as part of the recruiting process.

Who Should Apply for a Test Waiver?

Darden admissions offers an application for a standardized test waiver for candidates who have alternative evidence of their readiness to excel in a top MBA program.

For example, you might be qualified for a test waiver if you have:

  • A strong undergraduate record, including performance in analytical coursework or disciplines
  • A master’s or advanced degree in analytical discipline
  • At least three years of post-undergraduate, professional work experience, especially from quantitative or analytical career paths

Visit our application FAQ page for more information, including how to apply for a test waiver.

"When an Admissions Committee member looks at your application, they are trying to answer the question, ‘If we admit this person to our program, do we think they can be academically successful here?’ Your challenge as a candidate is to make sure you’re giving us enough information to be able to make that decision with confidence.”
