{"id":7999,"date":"2021-07-12T12:57:23","date_gmt":"2021-07-12T16:57:23","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blogs.darden.virginia.edu\/admissions\/?p=7999"},"modified":"2022-03-13T11:40:19","modified_gmt":"2022-03-13T15:40:19","slug":"breakthrough-scholars-program-to-prepare-diverse-leaders-in-asset-management","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.darden.virginia.edu\/admissions\/2021\/07\/12\/breakthrough-scholars-program-to-prepare-diverse-leaders-in-asset-management\/","title":{"rendered":"Breakthrough Scholars Program to Prepare Diverse Leaders in Asset Management"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span class=\"has-dropcap\">D<\/span>arden recently shared an exciting new competitive scholarship initiative designed to &#8220;foster a new generation of diverse leadership in private equity, venture capital (VC), hedge funds and other areas of asset management.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>The new <a href=\"https:\/\/www.darden.virginia.edu\/mba\/tuition-financial-aid\/scholarships\/competitive-scholarships\/breakthrough-scholars\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Breakthrough Scholars program<\/a> will consist of an annual cohort of up to 12 Breakthrough Scholars, who will receive merit-based scholarships in addition to other benefits including:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Comprehensive curricular and co-curricular offerings from the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.darden.virginia.edu\/mayo-center\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Richard A. Mayo Center for Asset Management<\/a>, the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.darden.virginia.edu\/batten-institute\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Batten Institute<\/a>\u00a0and the Darden Venture Capital Initiative enabling education, professional development and practical experience across a range of verticals within asset management<\/li>\n<li>Network and mentoring from current industry professionals<\/li>\n<li>A suite of elective courses that combine to best develop industry-relevant skills and expertise<\/li>\n<li>Access to career programs and unparalleled internship experiences with notable VC and private equity firms through the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.darden.virginia.edu\/batten-institute\/education\/batten-venture-internship-program\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Batten Venture Internship Program<\/a>,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.darden.virginia.edu\/mayo-center\/experiential-learning\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Mayo Center for Asset Management Fellowship Program<\/a>\u00a0and the newly created Darden Venture Fellows program<\/li>\n<li>A private equity or VC industry-related independent study overseen by a Darden faculty expert<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>In its initial year, the Breakthrough Scholars program will be open to students applying to the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.darden.virginia.edu\/mba\">Full-Time MBA<\/a>\u00a0and\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.darden.virginia.edu\/executive-mba-formats\">Executive MBA<\/a>. Students interested in joining the inaugural cohort of Breakthrough Scholars should indicate interest in their <a href=\"https:\/\/apply.darden.virginia.edu\/apply\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">admissions application<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Breakthrough Scholars faculty adviser <a href=\"https:\/\/www.darden.virginia.edu\/faculty-research\/directory\/gregory-fairchild\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Greg Fairchild<\/a> shared, &#8220;We\u2019ve curated a program that will be an advantage for elite women and outstanding under-represented racial minorities launching careers in private equity, venture capital and related fields.
