Last month, 35 students participated in a Global Topics Course in London, United Kingdom, led by Professor Yiorgos Allayannis. This week-long course, set in one of the world’s premier global financial centers, explored global capital markets with visits to the London Stock Exchange and the Baltic Exchange as well as with case discussions and talks led by Darden alumni in London and visiting lecturers from Apollo Global Management, Bank of America and Goldman Sachs.

The course, titled Global Capital Markets, focused on how these markets function, what factors impact them, and the key players and their roles within these markets. It addressed some of the challenges that the Brexit vote poses for the UK, and London specifically, moving forward. London also holds a key position in the market for global gold and art trading, which students learned about during visits to Sotheby’s Institute of Art and the British Museum, specifically the coin collection.

Students also enjoyed meeting with local Darden alumni in London for a Cases and Cocktails event led by Yiorgos Allayannis on “The Brexit Unknown: Britain’s Boom or Bust?”
