For several years, the Center for Global Initiatives (CGI) has offered undergraduate internship positions through UVA’s University Internship Program. We love the opportunity to engage undergraduate students and gain so much from their insights and assistance with our work.
This 2016-2017 academic year, Christina Xu worked alongside CGI staff helping with special projects, writing posts for this blog, conducting research, and learning about global engagement at a top business school. Originally from Shanghai, China, Christina’s language and writing skills in Mandarin proved very useful to the CGI team this year, particularly leading up to our annual Shanghai Investing Summit. Christina, who is finishing her second year at UVA, looks forward to a career in finance and will join UVA’s McIntire School of Commerce for her last two years at UVA. This summer, she will be interning with Charlottesville’s Mangham Associates, led by Elizabeth Aycock (MBA ’02).
Christina shared the following thoughts as she concluded her internship in the CGI office this year:
As my internship draws to a close and I reflect back on all that I have learned, I realize what an excellent experience this has been. I thoroughly enjoyed my internship this academic year at Center for Global Initiatives at Darden and now am leaving with very valuable experience and great memory.
In my opinion, the best way to learn is by doing. I learned more than I ever expected in this past year. I am truly grateful for this opportunity. I believe Center for Global Initiatives has done a tremendous job in implementing the internship program for undergraduate students. I have been working with such cooperative and helpful people in the office – big thanks to Kate Beach, my supervisor, and the entire team at CGI office, for all of your help and guidance! Some of my tasks required a lot of energy and time input, but all of the efforts were worth the fun that I had in this office. I could not have asked for a better internship experience. Thank you, CGI!
Thank you, Christina! We will miss having you in the office and wish you all the best with the rest of your time in Charlottesville and in your exciting career ahead!
