As previously noted, Darden has two new Consortium liaisons – Morolake Thompson, ’20 and Vita Wu, ’20! Last week, we caught up with Morolake, and today, we feature our Q&A with Vita. Check out her responses below, and be sure to check out all our Consortium-related blog coverage

What is your background? What did you do before coming to Darden?

My background is in education. After graduating from college, I joined Teach For America in San Antonio where I taught 11th grade Physics (Best subject ever!). After that, I traveled to Madrid, Spain where I continued teaching, focusing on English at an elementary school. Post-MBA, I am hoping to combine my business skills and education knowledge to bring more diversity to schools.

What attracted you to the Consortium liaison position?

My fellow Consortium students were the very first Darden classmates I met. This group truly helped me transition more smoothly into the business school world. Much of that community was fostered and organized by the Consortium liaisons, and I want to pay it forward. In general, I’m a planner, and this role attracted me because of the opportunity to serve the next class in a capacity that I know I’ll enjoy.

What’s been your favorite thing about Darden so far?

The structural ways in which community is built. There are so many opportunities to interact with people from different backgrounds. I have found some of my closest friends and met the most interesting people through my section, learning team and extracurricular activities. This sense of community is integral to the Darden experience and I’m thankful for the organization that allows for it.

What your best advice for prospective students?

Have a very clear picture of what you’re seeking out of your business school experience – academics, recruiting, social, etc. Darden has been an amazing experience, but it goes by extremely quickly. There are so many compelling opportunities, but you can’t do everything. Know your non-negotiables and where there’s wiggle room.
