One of Darden Admissions’ most popular resources is our YouTube playlist featuring application advice from Senior Assistant Director of Admissions Dawna Clarke. Clarke shared three new videos for the 2022-23 admissions cycle, including insights on choosing a recommender, leveraging the optional additional comments and hardships sections and considerations for applicants planning to utilize the standardized test flexibility and waivers.

Recommendations Advice
In Darden’s application process we require just one recommendation. Talk with your recommender before starting your application and make sure they understand why you’re pursuing an MBA and why you’re interested in Darden. Sharing a current copy of your resume is always a good idea! This way your recommender will understand the full arc of your career and your many accomplishments. A good recommender is first and foremost someone who knows you well.
Optional Additional Comments and Hardships Section
The Additional Comments section is a great way to provide more information about any aspect of the application. Some examples include:
- A tough semester in college
- A gap in employment
- Recommender choice. For example, if your current supervisor is not one of your recommenders, this is a good chance to let us know why.
- If you choose to apply in our final round, it is often helpful to have some insight regarding your application timing.
There is also an optional opportunity for applicants to share any hardships or challenges that the Admissions Committee should take into context when reviewing the application.
Standardized Tests and Test Waivers
Standardized tests are just one piece of information in a much broader, holistic evaluation. We accept a number of standardized tests – GMAT, GRE, Executive Assessment (EA), MCAT and LSAT – and view these all equivalently.
For some candidates a test score may not be needed for our Admissions Committee to assess their preparedness for Darden.
Please refer to our Admissions FAQ page for further details on this request process, under the ‘Standardized Tests’ tab, for further details on this test waiver application process.
The application to join the Full-Time MBA Class of 2025 is now open!
