Community is integral to the Darden experience. For students in our Professional Degree Programs, clubs and organizations add to the program both inside and outside of the classroom.
The Network for Executive Women (NEW) is an organization dedicated to the professional development and advancement of females in Darden’s Executive MBA and Part-Time MBA programs. NEW empowers women to reach their full career potential whether that is a C-suite position or another leadership position; we aim to see more women leaders.
Recently, NEW has had programing around the DMV that brings together students from across programs.
Talk with Laurie Ruettimann
Ruettimann is inspiring. A former HR leader turned acclaimed writer, entrepreneur, and globally renowned speaker, CNN named her one of the top five career advisors in the US. Her insights have been featured in top publications like NPR, The New Yorker, USA Today, The Wall Street Journal and Vox. Ruettimann hosts a popular podcast, PunkRock HR, and authored the book, “Betting on You.” Stephanie Massucco, VP of Communications, NEW moderated this event.
‘Daughters’ Q&A Screening
Hosted by the Fairchilds, Founders of PREP, this was special screening of ‘Daughters,‘ plus a Q&A with the film’s director, Angela and Coach Chad. The award-winning Sundance and BAFTA-nominated documentary shines a light on the powerful bond between young African American girls and their fathers, even amidst the challenges of incarceration. The film’s impact is amplified by the work of Coach Chad that leads the ‘Responsible Fatherhood’ workshops. The film is the brainchild of Angela Patton, founder of Camp Diva and CEO of Girls For A Change, a dedicated activist and advocate for ‘at-promise’ African American girls.
Other events include learning to play mahjong, networking lunches with current and prospective MBA students, Galentine’s matching program and a Ladies Night Golf Clinic.
NEW’s goals:
- Connecting female students and alumni through professional development, career support, and networking opportunities
- Creating an inclusive community and a sense of belonging among women in the Darden EMBA program
- Advocating for an understanding of issues of gender equality specifically related to women executives
- Expanding the pipeline of female applicants into the Darden EMBA program; and,
- Inspiring females to reach their fullest potential as leaders in business
