The Richard A. Mayo Center for Asset Management is UVA Darden’s hub for students interested in asset management research, programming, activities and clubs. Whether you could use a refresher on the definition of “venture capital” or consider yourself an Entrepreneurship-Through-Acquisition (ETA) pro, we invite you to dig in!

Recently, the Executive Director of the Mayo Center Rodney Sullivan, Senior Associate Director of Strategic Initiatives Caitlin Boyer and Managing Director of Admissions Brett Twitty sat down for “Office Hours,” a faculty thought leadership webinar series.

What the Mayo Center Does

The Mayo Center’s mission is to “[advance] the study and practice of responsible asset management globally through developing and delivering world-class research, educational programs and activities, awards, and support for student clubs and Darden Capital Management* (DCM).”

In 2021, the center launched three initiatives in private capital: Private Equity, Real Estate and Venture Capital. The webinar recording contains a detailed explanation of each one!

*DCM is an elective course and hands-on experiential learning opportunity for Second Year Darden students (although First Years can be involved in research). Students manage six different investment portfolios for the Darden School Foundation for course credit.

I think we all know that the world is changing quite rapidly — not just in finance, but everywhere. In finance, our industry is at an inflection point...the area that's growing most rapidly is called private capital.

- Rodney Sullivan
